Oxford ELLT Digital is a fully online English test you can take from home, with results typically issued within 48 hours. The Speaking test is conducted live with a trained human examiner, giving you a more natural and recognised experience.

Test format (4 skills & timings)
Oxford ELLT assesses four skills:
• Listening – 25 minutes
• Reading – 40 minutes
• Writing – 45 minutes
• Speaking – 20 minutes (live examiner)
How the Oxford ELLT works
1) Register online and upload your ID
2) Complete the online skills tests through the Oxford ELLT portal
3) Book and complete your live Speaking test with an Oxford ELLT examiner
4) Security checks are applied throughout (AI + human proctors)
5) Receive your results and certificate (typically within 48 hours)
Important: You must have your original passport available for ID checks, and the Speaking test must be completed on a laptop/desktop with camera (not on a mobile phone).
Security & integrity
Oxford ELLT is designed to protect test integrity. Your identity, environment, and behaviour are monitored during the test, with both AI-powered monitoring and trained human proctor review. Each test is generated from a large question bank, so you won’t see the same test twice.
Oxford ELLT scoring (OIDI → IELTS / TOEFL / CEFR)
Oxford ELLT uses an OIDI score (0–12), which maps to IELTS / TOEFL iBT and CEFR levels.
We also provide a clear “Score Mapping Table” image on our website for quick reference (OIDI to IELTS/TOEFL/CEFR).
Retake options (including Skill Retake)
If you didn’t achieve the score you needed, Oxford ELLT offers retake options. There is also an Oxford ELLT Skill Retake (for eligible students), allowing you to retake one part (Reading, Listening, or Writing & Speaking combined) without retaking the full test. Your updated certificate is automatically issued once marking is complete. (Terms, eligibility, and time window apply.)
